On June 10th, 2008, Darlington County voters will make a choice for an office that has been held by the same person for nearly a quarter of a century. My name is Wayne Byrd and I want to ask for your support to become your Darlington County Sheriff.
Challenges and Opportunities
Darlington County is a great place to live and work. But as the administration of the current Sheriff comes to a close, we must examine the challenges and opportunities that lie before us and consider who would be best to lead Darlington County Law Enforcement efforts.
Please take the time to consider some of the issues that I feel are important by checking out my Issues page. You will find that I have concrete plans that address many of these challenges. But I also know that you may have specific concerns, or even things you would like to see strengthened or changed. I want to hear about them. That’s why I’ve made it easy for you to let your voice be heard using our Contact page. I read each and every message you send, and seriously consider your comments.
A New Sheriff for a New Age
Times are changing. Rising unemployment and uncertain economic times often are the harbingers of increased criminal activity. The threat of terrorism is always present, and with a nuclear facility in Hartsville it brings that reality much closer to home. The explosion of illegal drugs and violent crimes, many involving guns or crimes of a sexual nature, requires a zero-tolerance attitude from those who are charged to protect our community.
At this critical point in time, Darlington County needs a Sheriff who understands and can effectively react to the current, modern law enforcement environment. We need A New Sheriff for a New Age.

You will find that I am well-qualified to lead the County Law Enforcement efforts. You will also find that I have the moral compass to lead with integrity, and to require the same of my deputies and all the members of my staff. In coordination with other agencies and the Prosecutor’s Office, I pledge to ensure that the citizens of Darlington County enjoy the best protection available. And with protection comes comfort and peace of mind.
Together, we can move forward into a new era. Together, we can face the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities that strong, fair leadership can bring. Together, we can!
